Why I do what I do

Women want to feel empowered, strong, capable, reliable, able, and self-reliant.

As a personal fitness trainer, I want women to feel empowered, strong, capable, reliable, able, and self-reliant.

When I teach someone how to perform a squat, or a push up, or a cable row, or a medicine ball wood chop, or a battle rope hip drive slam, I want more than anything for that person to feel confident enough to give it all she has.

So often, I find women are timid and almost embarrassed to give their 100% effort. There is a shyness or fearfulness to go all out. Many times it has to do with wanting to do it right, which is, of course, very important, and I appreciate that. But many times it has to do with lack of self-confidence.

Then… at some point in our learning, she reaches a point where she approaches an exercise with full abandon.

And THAT is why I do what I do!

When I see those shoulders back, those hips solid, that torso unyielding, it almost brings me to tears (and often does bring me to tears!). Because it means to me that she is feeling her body; she is getting it; she is understanding the power and ability and competence she has!

I feel like gym-time transfers literally into real life. If a woman is able to gain confidence in the gym, she is able to gain confidence when dealing with co-workers, or in her health care; she is able to gain confidence in raising her children and relating to her husband; she is able to gain confidence in her sport- so much so that she’ll make significant improvements, or even place, which builds more confidence!

When we are more confident, we live in a better world.

This is the contribution to the planet that I am created for.
