Give them the respect they are due

What the hell with “Carbs?!”

ESPECIALLY as in: “I’m cutting down on ‘carbs’.”!!

Do you even know what that means? I’m just asking because I think the thing you are referring to deserves a little more respect!

Carbohydrates are the reason you can blink our eyes, read this blog, or crank out those push-ups. First of all: Carbohydrates are your source of energy. Where else do you think you get energy?

It’s not coming from protein in and of itself. And if it comes primarily from fat, yes, that’s good, but it won’t help you move very quickly.

Your body is very efficient at turning carbohydrates into usable energy. Carbohydrates fuel organ activity, that is: your brain, heart and skeletal muscle.

THAT is how we are created! We use Carbohydrates to think, to breathe and to move. Why would you want to disrespect such a valuable resource to survival?

Let me tell you a little more about delicious carbohydrates. They provide fiber, phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals and antioxidant. Carbohydrates are well-documented to help prevent disease and cancers. Carbohydrates will keep your colon running smoothly. And carbohydrates will prevent you from bonking in an endurance event… not to mention your daughter’s dance recital. To name a few!

For example:
Bananas contain about 30 grams of carbohydrates. They are a great source of potassium and vitamin B6.

A sweet potato contains about 20 grams of carbohydrates and is high in vitamin A. Sweet potato provides good amounts of vital minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, and potassium that are very essential for enzyme, protein, and carbohydrate metabolism.

Parsnips have about 18 grams of carbohydrates per serving and are a great source of dietary fiber. They are high in vitamin C and rich in many B-complex groups.

And I probably don’t need to tell you how A-MAZING blueberries are! They have about 15 grams of carbohydrates per serving and are one of the most famous and well-known superfoods! They are among the highest anti-oxidant value fruits.

A couple of carrots will give you about 20 grams of carbohydrates. Carrots are rich in anti-oxidants, vitamins (especially vitamin A) and fiber.

You get what I’m saying?! You’re body NEEDS!! NEEDS NEEDS!! Carbohydrates. YES! The kind that are red and green and white and orange and blue.

If I hear one more person tell me they are “cutting down on ‘carbs’,” I’m going to scream! I want to say, “Oh so too much kale and broccoli in your diet. I know me too, and it’s really showing on the scale!” Or “Oh, I hear ya! I could feel my belt buckle get tighter just at the sight of that fruit salad Wanda brought to the pot luck!”

And then, “So what did YOU eat? I had pork chops and butter.”

“Last night I had ground beef and mayonnaise.”

Carbohydrates are probably THE MOST valuable source of food you…. NO… they are THE most valuable source of food you can consume!

So PA-LEEZE give CarbOHYDRATES the respect they are due!!
